With the escalation of U.S. military aid in 1981, 55 military advisors, or the Mobile Training Team, MTT, arrived in El Salvador and were stationed at bases around the country. Regulations on the capacities and number of advisors stationed were largely ignored or circumvented by the Reagan administration. Special training camps were created in neighboring Honduras for Salvadoran military units to avoid restrictions on the country’s advisors limit. Additional advisors were deployed and covertly financed through the CIA under the guise of “intelligence operations”."},{"label":"Topical subject","value":["United States foreign policy","Cold War","Counterinsurgency","Military training","Military","Civil war","El Salvador","Central America","Military aid"]},{"label":"Continent","value":["North and Central America"]},{"label":"Country","value":["El Salvador"]},{"label":"Special Collections","value":["The Photographic Archive of Robert Nickelsberg"]},{"label":"Download Restrictions","value":["Full Asset PDF","Original Item(s)"]},{"label":"Rights Statements","value":["In Copyright"]},{"label":"Rights Statements URI","value":"http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"}],"description":"U.S. Army Rangers Train El Salvador's Army In San Miguel","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/american/iiif/5979a492-4937-4807-b885-225ee6b09e62/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"U.S. Army Rangers Train El Salvador's Army In San Miguel","height":442,"width":317,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/american/iiif/5979a492-4937-4807-b885-225ee6b09e62/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/american/iiif/5979a492-4937-4807-b885-225ee6b09e62","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1]}]},"height":442,"width":317},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/american/iiif/5979a492-4937-4807-b885-225ee6b09e62/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/american/iiif/5979a492-4937-4807-b885-225ee6b09e62/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/american/iiif/5979a492-4937-4807-b885-225ee6b09e62/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/american/iiif/logo"}
