The story being depicted is about Nitta Yoshioki a samurai of the Nitta clan who fought for the southern imperial court during the nanboku-cho period (1336-1392.) In this scene Yoshioki has been put to death by the Minister of Motofuji. He is sentenced to drowning in the Tama river in Yaguchi, located in present day Ota Ward Tokyo.
