In 2008, Dar-ul Manaam orphanage was boarding 20 orphans from around the state and taking in local orphaned children from Srinagar for daily school instruction. Dozens of orphanages have opened up in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Since the conflict first started in the early 1990s, it's estimated there are over 200,000 Kashmiri orphans.
